>The Festival of Colors

“…people in India and other countries with large Hindu populations celebrated Holi, the Festival of Colors. Holi is celebrated as a welcoming of Spring, and a celebration of the triumph of good over evil. What that translates to in action is an enthusiastic dropping of inhibitions, as people chase each other and playfully splash colorful paint, powder and water on each other.”

Lucky Fish _ Pentagram
“You’ve got to ask yourself one question: ‘Do I feel lucky?’ Well, do ya punk?” Kit Hinrichs and Laura Scott have designed the identity for Luckyfish, a new sushi restaurant in Beverly Hills by Innovative Dining, the Los Angeles-based restaurant group that also operates the popular Sushi Roku, BOA Steakhouse and Katana. Hip in ambience and mid-range in price, Luckyfish reinterprets and elevates the traditional kaiten-zushi (conveyor-belt style sushi) experience.” mais aqui

“The campaign for “tesapack ultra strong” does not require any words to express the qualities of the advertised product. In order to point out at first glance the enormous adhesive strength of the tape, motifs were chosen that represent power and strength: a boxer, a sumo-wrestler and a body-builder. The specific reference to the tape, however, is established above all by the fact that the product itself was used to make or tape the motifs. For the realisation of this idea, the tape was used in a subtle as well as distinctive manner – lending this everyday product an attention-grabbing appeal.”

>Jonathan Ive/Dieter Rams

with one comment

>

“When you look at the Braun products by Dieter Rams—many of them at New York’s MoMA—and compare them to Ive’s work at Apple, you can clearly see the similarities in their philosophies way beyond the sparse use of color, the selection of materials and how the products are shaped around the function with no artificial design, keeping the design “honest.”

This passion for “simplicity” and “honest design” that is always declared by Ive whenever he’s interviewed or appears in a promo video, is at the core of Dieter Rams’ 10 principles for good design:

• Good design is innovative.
• Good design makes a product useful.
• Good design is aesthetic.
• Good design helps us to understand a product.
• Good design is unobtrusive.
• Good design is honest.
• Good design is durable.
• Good design is consequent to the last detail.
• Good design is concerned with the environment.
• Good design is as little design as possible.

Ive’s inspiration on Rams’ design principles goes beyond the philosophy and gets straight into a direct homage to real products created decades ago. Amazing pieces of industrial design that still today remain fresh, true classics that have survived the test of time.”
